Mooloolaba and New Plymouth

My first two World Cups of 2008

My first two World Cups of the year have come and gone...I'm not exactly extremely happy with the results, but you win some you lose some.

As long as you just keep on learning things fro your average races and try and change them to finally get some of the results you have been working for.

MOOLOOLABA:

I finished 26th in Mooloolaba, but hey I at least beat my ranking for the race which was 28. I started off with an awesome run into the water and easily got over the beach break and into some clear water.I guess I have to thank my brother for those endless races into the surf during summer at the beach house. Going around the first buoy was chaos and I was held back for the first time ever in World Cup racing, it is a Olympic year and the swims are rough and tough. I felt really comfortable and it felt good swimming in the front again, after a year(2007)where it did not happen too often. I exited the water in the Top 8...but on the long run up to transition on the sand, I could feel my legs were not  what they should have been. Soon a front pack of about 26 girls with all the big names formed in the front.I was amazed at how easy it was, especially going up the hills, so I guess crunching out all those watts on my SRM paid off. But I still did not feel 100% at all, and it showed on the run.  I got stuck in first gear and could not get out of it...hence the 26th place.

I finished 20th, this time my ranking was 20 too. Oeps. Another good swim, although my wetsuit is an antique with holes the size of my fist underneath my arms. Once again I made the front pack on the bike and felt really really comfortable, but not strong enough to attempt a solid break. The first 6km of the run was okish, I was still in 15th, but then something happened and I dropped down to 19th and was caught on the line by Lisa Hutthaler from Austria, so 20th for me.
